Suggestions for taking a template
a) Cut a cardboard template to fit inside the patient’s shoe.
b) Mark the lesion or area of padding on the patient’s foot.
c) Ask the patient to stand in the shoe with the template in (it helps if
the template is moistened slightly).
d) Take the template out of the shoe & check with the foot to confirm
the padding position (clearly marking this area).
e) Choose materials by completing the prescription form.
Points to be carefully considered when prescribing prescription insoles:
Their purpose to:-
· Redistribute pressure
· Decelerate forces
· Protect vulnerable tissue from further injury
· Reproduce function of absent tissue
· Reduce stresses in a particular structure or area of tissue
· To allow healing processes
Checklist before prescribing insoles:-
· The patient’s usual daily footwear is suitable for an insole.
· The patient is willing to use the insoles in their daily footwear.
· The suitability of the device has been confirmed using padding to
the foot, or a temporary or previous insole used.
